What Are Dental Veneers?
Dental veneers are thin shells made from high-quality materials such as porcelain that are designed to be cemented over troubled teeth to conceal cosmetic defects such as chips, cracks, gaps, and stains. In some cases, they can be used to reshape misshapen teeth or to realign a smile without orthodontic treatment. Veneers are manufactured to imitate the ideal appearance of real teeth, giving the patient a beautiful new smile that won’t give casual observers any clues that they have received dental work. These durable and stain-resistant appliances can last for up to fifteen years before needing replacement.
The Process of Getting Veneers
Before you can receive veneers, you’ll need to have a consultation with one of our dentists in New Braunfels. During this meeting, our dentist will examine your mouth to make sure you can be a good candidate for the procedure while also discussing your goals and preferences.
Veneers are typically placed over two appointments. During the first, Dr. Haag or Hansen will begin by using a local anesthetic to numb the teeth being treated and may also use a dental sedation treatment to ensure the process is completely painless and comfortable. They will then remove a tiny amount of enamel from these teeth to make room before taking impressions and placing temporary veneers upon them. The impressions will be sent to a lab where your permanent set will be manufactured.
You’ll come back to our office when we receive your permanent veneers about two weeks later. Our dentist will then remove the temporary set, cement the permanent ones in place, and make any final adjustments. You’ll then be ready to enjoy life with your beautifully transformed smile!
The Benefits of Veneers
Though there are many cosmetic dental treatments that can make teeth more beautiful, veneers are an especially versatile treatment that brings radical and immediate results. Some of the benefits these thin porcelain shells carry include:
- Addressing more than one cosmetic imperfection at once
- Concealing many types of dental flaws
- Being placed in a quick, comfortable, and minimally invasive manner.
- Durable appliances with a lifelike appearance
- Lasting for fifteen years or more with excellent care
Understanding the Cost of Veneers
Veneers tend to be one of the more costly cosmetic dental treatments, and they are rarely covered by insurance since they are usually considered an elective procedure. However, your insurance may cover them by 50% to 80% if they are used as part of a restorative treatment. We also offer financing options through CareCredit, a third-party financier that can break your overall bill into easily manageable monthly installments with little to no interest. Our team will be more than happy to go over your payment and financing options to find the solution that works best for you.
